The Danish Road Directorate has selected technology, data and design company Solita A/S as a strategic partner for the modernisation of its traffic data systems. Under a new framework agreement, Solita has secured its largest delivery to date in Denmark, covering the development, support and long-term maintenance of the Traffic Database of the Future, a strategic flagship project to ensure modern and reliable traffic data and statistics services for the future.

In 2027, the Danish Road Directorate will transition to a new IT system called the Traffic Database of the Future designed for the processing and storage of traffic data. The new system will future-proof the Road Directorate’s and the municipalities’ ability to process data flexibly while ensuring high data quality. Following a competitive tender process, Solita was selected based on its ability to deliver user-centred IT infrastructure with enhanced possibilities for data processing and high quality.

Known domain, new technological platform

Solita brings deep domain expertise into the project through its long-standing responsibility for the development and maintenance of the Danish Road Directorate’s current traffic data system, MASTRA, which will later be replaced by the Traffic Database of the Future.

“The Traffic Database of the Future fundamentally rethinks how traffic data is processed and utilised. The new solution will be built on a modern, cloud-based technology platform and has been designed with the user at is centre, delivering a more intuitive and efficient user experience. At the same time, operating costs have been kept as low as possible by, for example, keeping data processing in Azure and avoiding unnecessary data transfers, without compromising functionality”, explains Lise Bach Vestergaard.

At the Danish Road Directorate, the Traffic Database of the Future is regarded as a central element in the long-term digital development.
