Snower is a Finnish company from Pyhätunturi, building compact, battery-powered devices that measure snow and weather conditions where it matters. Our devices combine radar, sensors, and machine learning to turn what’s happening on the ground into data that people can actually act on.
Snow is one of the biggest variables in winter mobility. Road maintenance crews, infrastructure operators, and planners need to know how much snow has fallen, how much of it is on the road, when it is cleared, and what the road surface conditions look like. Often that has to happen at sites where there’s no mains power or wired connection. That’s the gap we’re closing.
Market focus and ambitions:
· Winter road maintenance: Accurate, local snow data helps maintenance teams decide when and where to plough and treat roads, saving time, fuel, and money while keeping traffic moving safely.
· Surface and weather conditions: Beyond snow depth, our devices detect precipitation and surface status, giving a fuller picture of conditions on roads and other infrastructure.
· International growth: We see all snowy regions worldwide facing the same challenge; currently, we are focusing on Europe, Chile, USA and Canada. Finnish winters are the perfect testing ground for solutions built to work anywhere.
Why we joined the Traffic Data Service Cluster?
“Snow data only creates value when it reaches the people making decisions. Joining the Traffic Data Service Cluster connects us with partners who share that goal, and together we can make winter traffic safer and more predictable”, says Harri Valasma, CEO of Snower.
We are a small team with backgrounds in hardware, software, snow and data. We like solving hard problems in harsh conditions, and we build and test our devices in some of Finland’s snowiest places.
We look forward to working with fellow members of the Traffic Data Service Cluster to make winter mobility smarter, one snowflake at a time!
